What is the Education and Participation Program (BuT)?
Tutoring can be a financial challenge for many families. This is where the Education and Participation Program (BuT) comes in: it supports children and young people in improving their educational opportunities and participating in social life.
Under certain conditions, the program can cover the cost of learning support (tutoring).
The aim is to provide targeted support so that students can achieve their essential learning goals.
Who is eligible for learning support?
Children and young people are eligible for benefits from the Education and Participation Program if their parents receive one of the following:
- Citizen’s Benefit (SGB II)
- Social assistance (SGB XII)
- Benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
- Housing benefit
- Child supplement
Important information on learning support
As a rule, the benefits apply to students up to the age of 25.
Learning support is only granted if:
- there is a specific need for support
- the school confirms that additional support is necessary
- the learning objectives cannot be achieved without extra help
Application process in 5 steps
Select the Application form for „Education and Participation benefits“ from the City of Chemnitz and fill it out.
Have the school confirm that learning support (tutoring) is required. This is usually done by the responsible teacher.
Submit the completed application together with the school confirmation to the responsible authority:
Jobcenter (for Citizen’s Benefit)
Sozialamt (e.g. for housing benefit, child supplement, or social assistance)
After review, you will receive a notification of approval.
Please submit this approval notice to us.
Tutoring can only begin after this step.
There are no costs for you – the billing is handled directly with the responsible authority.
Please note: approval is granted for a limited period of time.
Make sure to apply for a follow-up approval before the current one expires.
Tutoring can only continue with a valid approval.
